IntroductionThis module addresses a concern different from the previous modules. Rather than evaluating students, Assessing Teaching Effectiveness concerns the instructor evaluating and possibly altering his instruction based on feedback from students and other sources. Assessment in this context refers to the gathering of information for the purpose of improving instruction. Reputations of teachers are established early and spread widely among students. Therefore, you should consider putting a considerable amount of effort into your instruction when you start a new position. In this unit we will discuss factors on which judgments are often made so that you can do the best job you can. A good starting point for assessment is the beginning of the semester. You have constructed a syllabus and will soon have a classroom of students.
