Overview
The Assessment unit covers different parts of the assessment process,
providing strategies for evaluating your students' learning, the instruments
you use to evaluate them, and your own teaching effectiveness. Some of
these modules contain additional resources for people who want to take
an advanced look at assessment, including various assessment theories
and formulae.
The unit begins with a general Overview of Assessment before jumping
into specifics. This introductory module provides a historical
background, a context for evaluation and a brief discussion of various
testing elements. The second module, Measuring Student Learning,
provides guidelines for preparing tests, conducting them, and analyzing
their results. This leads to a module on Grading & Final Assessment,
which is the last step in measuring students' learning.
The last two modules provide assessment information that is not directly
related to the students' performance. The fourth module, Evaluating
Tests, analyzes how effectively different instruments assess students'
abilities to meet course objectives. The final module, Assessing
Teaching Effectiveness, gives strategies for performing formative evaluation
of your own teaching and for making changes to the course in response
to the results of that evaluation.
