Guidelines

activity

Here is a checklist of things you may wish to consider in your decision of course content:

  • Expected enrollment based on prior years.
  • Anticipate your general copying needs for handouts / exams / lecture notes and find out your department's policy on copying large amounts of course material
  • University policy on the use of copyrighted material that is sold / given to students or posted on the web
  • Course website development assistance in your department / college
  • Library electronic sites, department checkout or reserve book rooms
  • Text adoption deadlines at the bookstore
  • Policies on creating CDs of your lecture notes
  • Campus methods for sale and distribution of course readers
  • Policies regarding assembling journal or media articles (see copyright issues above)
  • Custom texts using desktop publishing
  • Problem sets or material for group work
  • Written assignments and exams for large courses, the time you will spend on this activity and whether advanced students are available as graders
  • Staff support for laboratory preparation and cleanup (including the help of Teaching Assistants)
  • Budget for this course
  • Lab materials / equipment available
  • Availability of equipment for video / digital projection, internet connection, film viewing, overhead projection, student response systems, etc.

Good Luck!!
