Course Description

This section should include:

  • a course description from the School Bulletin
  • an expanded course description from the instructor

By quoting the school bulletin or catalog course description, you are letting students know the exact material they will cover according to the department and university specifications. However, while the bulletin description is your baseline, it may be brief or vague. Discuss your interpretation of the material in an expanded description or introductory paragraph. Ask the department office manager for examples of previously used syllabi for the course from other faculty. Use these as guides and adjust them according to your own focus and interpretation. Always keep the university guidelines prominent in your mind, as making any significant changes to content or requirements is illegal.
