Other Course Specific Information

Specific notes or safety rules

This section should include:

  • safety rules for lab use
  • special equipment or apparel
  • emergency procedures
  • policy for uninvited visitors or children attending class
  • policy for eating and drinking in class
  • policy for using cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDA), laptops, tape recorders, and radios
  • courtesy and discussion etiquette
  • special Needs
  • references for extension of knowledge

There may be other notes that you would like to add to this list. Do not be shy: specify everything that will take away from a wonderful experience for all your students in your class.

Your professionalism, personality and teaching style may affect your tolerance of cell phones or pizza during class. Unless you clearly explain the classroom conduct you expect at the beginning of the semester in your syllabus, you will be nagging students continuously.

Example from Dr. Jane DeWitt:
Courtesy:

Lectures begin at 9:10 and end at 10:00. Please be courteous to me and to fellow students by keeping talking to a minimum during the lecture, by being on time for lecture and by not packing up early. Please turn off all electronic devices during the lecture.

Special Needs: Any student who requires additional time for exams or quizzes in the laboratory or the lecture must be registered with the DRC and have informed the Chemistry Department Chairman (338-1288) by Jan. 24 2001. We will be unable to accommodate your needs if you are not registered with the DRC.
