Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow Program

San Francisco State University (SFSU) and the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) have joined together to design and implement a two-semester Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow Program to prepare postdoctoral students for academic positions.   This program is comprised of four components:

  1. Orientation to College Teaching: A workshop series, delivered both face-to-face and online, covering course design, development, implementation and assessment;
  2. Co-Teaching Practicum: Fellows co-teach a course in their discipline with a faculty mentor from SFSU;
  3. Teaching Practicum: Fellows teach a course in their discipline under the direction and supervision of their SFSU faculty mentor; and
  4. Professional Development Workshops.

While most postdoctoral experiences are solely research driven, this program is focused on college teaching and incorporates technology-based teaching; student outcomes-based instruction; and preparation for instructing a diverse population.   This project is funded through the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE).
