Classroom Teaching

This module gives you the opportunity to create and compile a teaching philosophy through a series of activities. These activities will take place in an interactive environment. Before you get started, read through some of the basic information about the interactive environment including what software you need to have installed on your computer, where to download it if you don't have it, and how to use the interactive interface. After reading this information, click on the link at the bottom of the page to enter the interactive presentation.

Requirements Return to top of page

As stated in the Introduction to this module, you will construct a draft version of your Philosophy of Teaching through a series of activities. The interactive nature of these activities requires the use of the Macromedia Flash plug-in, version 6. You may obtain a free copy of this plug-in from the www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer. (pop-up)

Before you begin working on your draft teaching philosophy, you will be prompted for your email address and password. The first time you enter this information, a record will be created for you in a database. This record will act as your virtual workspace as you complete your draft. Having a record will allow you to save your work as you progress through the activities and to return to this module as many times as necessary without having to start over each time.

Using the presentation Return to top of page

The interactive presentation has video clips and other tools, such as examples of teaching philosophy statements to help you create your own Philosophy of Teaching. You can skip back and forth between different sections of the presentation by clicking on the radio buttons at the top of the presentation. During the course of the activity, you will be able to type your own teaching philosophy into text boxes. When you click a radio button (view screenshot) at the top of the presentation to work on a specific section of your Philosophy of Teaching, or when you click the "Next" or "Previous" buttons below the video, your most recent response will be saved to the database. At the end of the presentation, you can compile all of your responses into one document that will be sent via email to the address you entered on the login page. You may return to this presentation at anytime to continue developing your Philosophy of Teaching Statement.
